Please support the Joe Boissy Memorial Hospice Golf Tournament. There are three ways to get involved, support Hospice patients and their families and be a part of this annual event:
I. Hole Sponsorship: Advertise your business or organization with a sign displayed prominently on one of the 18 holes. Print out the sponsorship form below and send it to the address indicated.
II. Hole Memorial: Remember a loved one or friend that died with a memorial displayed on one of the 18 holes reminding all golfers of their reason for participating in the day’s event: Hospice’s commitment to support the people of Lewis County in the final stages of life and to continue support to those that grieve their death. Print out the memorial form below and send it to the address indicated.
III. Tournament Entry: Register to play in this 2-person Captain and crew event recognized by many to be the “most fun” tournament around. Play in one of four divisions: Man/Man, Woman/Woman, Man/Woman, Senior/Junior (one player under 15 years of age). Enjoy many side games: skins, closest-to-the-pin, hit-the-green, Shappiro, longest drive, and string extensions. Print out the registration form below and send it to the address indicated.
Joe Boissy was an avid golfer, the first and long-time treasurer of Lewis County Friends of Hospice and a committed member of our community. Joe was instrumental in finding ways for funding Hospice services for people in Lewis County when the Friends of Hospice were struggling to meet its financial commitments each year.
In 2011, the impact Governor Patterson’s cut of all aid to county Hospices hit us significantly. The cost of Hospice services in Lewis County in 2010 after Medicare, hospitalization and county payments resulted in a bill to the Friends of Hospice in the amount of $137,778. That means that the Friends of Hospice needs to raise an additional $75,000 this year in order to replace the monies spent from its reserves last year.

Pictured here are two golfers enjoying a fabulous day of golf and friendship at the 2010 Boissy/Hospice Tournament. Be a part of this year’s event.
Light Up a Life
We invite everyone in Lewis County to join in the annual Light-Up-A-Life program to begin on Friday, November 25 and to culminate with the Light-up-A-Life Ceremony on Saturday, December 17 .
The Light-Up-A-Life Annual Campaign is one of the three major fundraisers sponsored by the Friends of Lewis County Hospice each year. All funds raised remain in Lewis County to insure that all individuals and families in the county needing Hospice services receive those services.
However, Light-Up-A-Life is more than a fundraising event. At the holiday Season it provides an opportunity to remember and acknowledge the greatest gift given to each and every person: the gift of life. Light-Up-A-Life invites us to remember the lives of those people, living and dead that have brought “light” into our own personal lives.
The names of the people that have been a light in our lives are placed on Small Christmas trees located at businesses throughout the county. Then all the nametags are delivered to the Lewis County Historical Society on State St. in Lowville and placed on a large tree lighted with a light for each name. After a short opening ceremony, all of the names are read aloud by volunteers from the various communities.
All people in Lewis County are cordially invited to come to the historical society and be a part of this celebration of lives of the special people that have touched many of us.
